> CBD oil combines a CBD ingredient with a carrier oil. Compare the full ingredients, CBD per millilitre and CBD per labelled serving; a larger bottle total does not necessarily mean a higher concentration.

## Separate the ingredients

A typical CBD oil combines a CBD ingredient with a carrier. Check the ingredient list for the carrier, flavorings, and any other cannabinoids. “Hemp oil” on its own is too vague to establish how much CBD a product contains.

## Compare concentration

Divide the labelled total milligrams of CBD by the bottle volume in milliliters. For example, a hypothetical 600 mg bottle containing 30 mL has a labelled concentration of 20 mg/mL. This is label arithmetic, not a recommended dose. It does not verify the actual contents.

## Oil and tincture are not always used consistently

Sellers sometimes use the terms interchangeably. Read the ingredients and directions rather than assuming the name tells you the solvent or how to use it. Do not put an oral oil into a vaping device.

## Make a small product checklist

Save the label, batch number, report, and stated serving. Ask whether the report covers the bottle’s batch and whether cannabinoid results use compatible units. Product testing by the Food Standards Agency shows why chemical measurements matter. [1] Bring that information to your clinician before making a decision about use.

## A stronger oil is not automatically the cheaper offer

Fictional prices and labels for comparison only. Shipping, taxes and discounts are excluded from this example.

| Imaginary offer | Label concentration | Cost per labelled mg CBD |
| --- | --- | --- |
| A: 1,000 mg CBD / 10 ml / €40 | 1,000 ÷ 10 = 100 mg/ml | €40 ÷ 1,000 = €0.040 |
| B: 1,500 mg CBD / 30 ml / €45 | 1,500 ÷ 30 = 50 mg/ml | €45 ÷ 1,500 = €0.030 |
| Compare the same measures | A is twice as concentrated | B costs 25% less per labelled mg |

In the hypothetical offers above, A has more labelled CBD per millilitre. B has more CBD in the whole bottle and a lower cost per labelled milligram, despite costing more at checkout. Bottle price, total CBD and concentration measure different things.

Use the final cost including delivery and applicable charges, as the [FTC shopping guidance](https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/online-shopping) advises. Check that the denominator means CBD, rather than hemp extract or carrier oil. The [FSA analysis](https://science.food.gov.uk/article/123685-analysis-of-cbd-products-2022-23) concerns actual measurements. A price calculation cannot verify contents or compensate for missing batch and ingredient information.

1. **Normalize concentration:** Total labelled CBD divided by ml.
2. **Normalize price:** Final cost divided by total labelled CBD.
3. **Check the evidence:** Ingredients, intended use and matching batch report.

Make two separate comparison columns: labelled mg/ml and final cost divided by labelled total mg CBD. Keep the batch evidence beside them.

Scope: The offers and prices are invented. The calculation does not measure purity, efficacy, absorption or the amount anyone should use.

## Does the higher percentage bottle contain more CBD overall?

Not necessarily. Compare the labelled total CBD as well as the bottle volume. A smaller concentrated bottle may contain less CBD overall.

## Is the lowest cost per mg the best CBD oil?

That number describes a price comparison only. It does not verify the label, ingredients, batch testing, suitability or a health result.

## CBD concentration and bottle volume

CBD per millilitre differs from CBD per labelled serving. A drop count cannot replace a measured volume.
