# CBD capsules and softgels: servings and ingredients

## Per capsule or per serving?

Check whether the CBD amount is given for one capsule or several. Then compare the total number of servings in the package. Keep “milligrams of hemp extract” separate from “milligrams of CBD” unless the label explains the relationship.

## Check the capsule itself

Read the shell and filler ingredients if you avoid gelatin or particular allergens. Softgels may contain carrier oils. Added vitamins, herbs, or sleep ingredients turn the product into a more complex combination.

In the hypothetical label above, a 500 mg capsule filling contains 20 mg CBD. Calling it a “500 mg CBD capsule” would overstate the CBD amount. The remaining filling and capsule shell have their own ingredients.
